Obligatory Pin-Up Girl

Because what makes a lady jump if not a wind-up crocodile? Here it is the end of a grueling day and all you want is to get out of that polyester contraption of a dress. What comes along but an aluminum reptile to send a girl scampering to the nearest (but most petite) perch for safety. Oh, but it feels kind of silly on second thought, doesn't it? At least that infernal, perpetually chafing dress is nowhere to be seen.

And yet it would seem that since, after all, a wind-up crocodile cannot wind itself up - and since she seems to be on her own here - that she wound the thing up and then climbed up there.

Or perhaps the artist wound it up. That's also a peculiar scenario. They all are, really.

Lidian, if Gil Elvgren and the other talented good girl illustrators of his day were naturalists, ours would be a world where women lived in constant fear of their underwear falling off in public places. A self-winding crocodile would be the least of their worries!

What? You mean I DON'T have to worry about my underwear falling off? My life is changed....
